OSTERIA was born out of a dream of t owners of Puglia Cheese, Ursula and Davide Ostuni. The dream to one day have a beautiful cheese farm in a idyllic place with Sea View! And a small Osteria where to introduce our cheeses, for people to take a cheese journey. We have so many Wines, Whiskey, Gin, Rhum tastings to choose from but almost no Cheese Tastings, where the cheese is the King, where the Wine is ancillary to Cheese and not the other way round. A place to admire not only nature but also the skills of our cheese makers, seeing in real time the very same cheese that you’re about to eat. To have a breakfast or lunch where each dish has been imagined for tantalizing your cheese buds. To open a different window with a view to new cheeses and a world of new dishes using the very same. This is the place; this is where you will find all that and more. A warm welcome to our family business We also wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for embracing us into your beautiful community, and your warm support since our move here in September last year. We look forward to your company today and hope it will be soul-fulfilling and “food for thought”. Both Osteria and Puglia encompass our family ethos of a wholesome and healthy lifestyle, including some creative play on traditional home and handmade favourites, combined with 30 years of food-industry experience during a 30 year marriage, which we look forward to sharing with you. The Puglia Cheese factory is proudly italo-southafrican since June 2010, and has since opening our doors 13 and half years ago, been awarded with over 40 South African, world and Qualite’ cheese and business Awards. Over the years Puglia has trained South Africa’s first Italian cheese makers in artisanal cheese practices and continue to share this experience with our future Chefs. The first Burrata ever made on the continent was in South Africa by Puglia Cheese on the 5th of June 2010! Since then, many other Italian firsts have been introduced too, such as our Nodini, Sfoglia, Stracchino and so many more, which give us enormous pleasure to present these to you today on our cheese inspired menu. Osteria cheesebar is the new addition to our family business. It allowed us an opportunity to open our door to you and your family to enjoy our homemade Italian dishes, showcasing all the cheeses that we make daily at Puglia. In Italy, an Osteria is a place of artisanal production and thus the Osteria ethos is to ensure a wholesome, artisanal, authentic Italian experience, with all the warmth of a family home. Relax, close the door on the world outside (easy to do, due to the signal-blocking faraday cage-effect that also seems to exist on this idyllically scenic and bio-dynamic piece of heaven you are currently sitting in) and enjoy hopefully what we like to call …
